I will not allow…

My mom has been very adamant about how she wants the end of her life to be done. Unless it will give her quality of life, she wants no part of any treatment or procedures that will keep her earthside when it’s time for her to leave. She did not want to put all those decisions on me as it was put on her when it came to her dad, my grandpa. She told me it was one of the most traumatic things she has ever been through. When my stepdad was diagnosed with cancer, he said he would try a few treatments and see if it would do any good as this is what the doctor had told him. My mom supported his decision and she stood by him as he went through several rounds of chemo. He became very sick from the chemo and knew, that since there were no guarantees that he would be cured in the end, this was not how he wanted to live his final time earthside. He refused anymore chemo and went home to leave this world on his terms. Hospice was called for palliative care and mom took care of him to the end. On his terms. And this is what mom wants for this later part of her life. On her terms. And as her caregiver I have taken steps to make sure her wishes are followed. I now have durable power of attorney and medical power of attorney. Mom also has an advance directive in place. She will leave this side of heaven on her terms. And I will not allow anyone to take that from here.
