privileged…huh?

I am so tired of hearing how bad it is to be white. I am so tired of hearing how privileged I am supposed to be because I’m not black. I’m so tired of hearing how privileged I am because I’m not from south of the border. I am tired of race baiting. I am tired of people in power, i.e. career politicians and leftists, telling me that I am privileged for all the above and beyond. I AM TIRED. I AM DONE.

I have a mixed ethic background. The majority of my ethnicity is Hispanic, Indian, and northern Europe. So, yes, I’m part white. My momma is so white, if she thinks about the sun, she will burn. My daddy is where I get the rest of my ethnic background. But growing up ‘mixed’, kids were cruel. I was pretty much a loner and had very few friends. I was seen as neither white or Hispanic by my peers. And my maiden name is Hispanic! I have extremely curly hair to the point that it is frizzy but not coarse. I have even been accused of being black because of my hair. Huh? Seriously? I was always told that I’m white. But have I seen privilege because of this? NO. My skin tone is brown. Have I seen privilege because of this? NO! Has my momma been privileged because she is white? No. Did my maternal grandparents have privilege because they were white? No. As a matter of fact, my grandparents worked very hard for what little they had. My maternal grandfather was never promoted at work just because he was white. My grandfather refused to kiss butt and go against his work ethics and he stayed at the bottom of the ladder. They never owned their own home. My grandparents always had a garden to help cut food costs. I remember my grandparents always having government issued blocks of cheese and beans. The packaging was white with black lettering. My grandparents only source of income after grandpa retired was social security. But they were still proud people. My mother did not inherit and privilege from her parents. My mother has struggled and worked all her adult life is completely dependent on social security now that she’s retirement age. There has been no privilege that I can speak of just because part of my family is white. And there hasn’t been any privilege passed to me. As far as my dad’s family is concerned, there was no privilege there either. My paternal grandparents grew up in rural east Texas and were dirt poor. After getting married and starting a family, my grandfather took a job as a boilermaker in chemical plants and got into the union. My grandfather managed to get better pay because of the union but he wasn’t privileged because of his ethnicity. My grandfather worked hard to purchase a home. My grandfather planted a garden every year. My paternal grandparents worked hard at saving money for the future and cut costs where possible. My husband is white. Does he have privilege? No. Did my in-laws have privilege because they are white? No. My father-in-law worked all his life as a butcher working for a grocery chain. He worked hard to have what little they owned. My grandparents helped me to understand this concept: you must WORK for what you have. Nothing is handed to you. Nothing. I have worked very hard for what little I have and own. I only recently was finally capable of purchasing a home, which was extremely difficult. I had to borrow against my 401K just to have the closing costs. But rent and mortgage payments are the same these days for a 3 bedroom home. My husband and I decided we needed to invest for ourselves.

I bring all this up to debunk the white privilege myth. Just because a person is white does not mean you are automatically privileged. End of story.

Our history is ugly. That can not be ignored. I will be the first one to tell you that. Racism is ugly. It keeps a society from its true potential. No matter how much or how little melatonin you have in your skin, everyone has something to contribute to society. Certain ethnic groups have been kept down because of agendas more so than others. This is where we need a real lesson in history and not what is taught in public schools either. I challenge everyone who reads this post to do a deep dive in real history. There a some awesome historians and podcasters out there who have done their homework and have the evidence. You will find that the only privileged people in this country are career politicians and corporations. It is time to drain the swamp in Washington D.C. It is time to get the true privileged and corrupt people out of the place where policies are made. Corporate agendas and career politicians are the ones who are keeping we the people down. They always have and always will unless we vote them out. Then and only then will we see real change.
