R.I.P. Charlie Kirk

It has taken me a few days to really process my thoughts since the assassination of Charlie Kirk. My thoughts are still rather scattered but: Here. We. Go.

Charlie Kirk was truly a child of God and God’s messenger. Charlie was not afraid to proclaim the message of the gospel. Charlie was not afraid to live out the gospel in his life. Charlie truly stood up for what he believed. When asked what he wanted to be remembered for, Charlie replied that he wanted to be remembered for his faith. That is a legacy that is eternal and a legacy worth leaving behind. Charlie had no hidden agenda. What you seen is what you got. Charlie certainly was not perfect. Charlie was always learning and if he was wrong, he would say so with correct information. Charlie inspired many people and lives. From those who have worked at Turning Point USA to the young people on college campuses, Charlie was a light that changed lives. Besides sharing the gospel, Charlie’s number one priority was he family. Charlie lived out his love for his wife. Charlie knew what his role as a husband was and his responsibilities in headship of his home. Charlie loved his role as a father. Charlie reveled in being a dad. His little girl was definitely a daddy’s girl. Charlie understood the importance of being an involved father in his children’s lives and made time for them despite his busy schedule.

One of the biggest marks if not the biggest mark Charlie made on all who knew him or knew of him was that violence was never justified for any reason. And how do we know this? There were no riots. There were no destroying of property. There were no burning of cities and neighborhoods. Instead, there were prayers, vigils, memorials and people coming together to remember a man who loved the Lord and just wanted people to talk to each other. Charlie loved going to college campuses and give anyone who did not agree with him the opportunity to talk and even those who did agree with him a chance to seek answers from his point of view. All Charlie wanted people to do was talk out their differences and quite possibly learn from one another. Charlie, because he knew a lot of history, understood that debate was important as it played an important part in the creation of this awesome Constitutional Republic. For a man who never went to college, the man was a wealth of knowledge. Charlie believed that once people quit talking, that is when violence happens. And he was right. Charlie had a theme of ‘Prove Me Wrong’. The fact that any one who disagreed with him could not prove him wrong made a lot of people upset.

So many people in our country, around the world, have been affected by Charlie’s death. People who did not really know who Charlie was, people who knew of Charlie in passing, people who did not agree with Charlie and of course all the people who supported Charlie have grieved and are still grieving as if Charlie was a close personal friend or family member. And for those who can not understand why they were so affected by Charlie’s death was because he was human. Charlie was a husband. Charlie was a father. Charlie was a businessman who ran an honest business. Charlie was a child of God. Charlie was one of us. Charlie related to all of us in everyday life.

Charlie Kirk’s assassination has certainly effected me. I knew who Charlie was a listened to his podcast often as I was able. I loved that such a young man who lived out his faith just wanted people to talk. Once Charlie passed, I learned details about him that broke me to my core. Charlie was the same age as my daughter. My momma heart broke because he could have been one of my kids. Then I found out that his wife and my daughter have the same name spelled the exact same way and I was crushed. I do not believe in coincidence. But I do believe that God will show us things and He will get our attention however He sees fit. And God is definitely showing me a lot and He has my attention.
