I came across this story from the Dallas Morning News about a 20 year old illegal immigrant college student, Luis Andrade Garcia, who was arrested and subsequently deported back to his home country. As usual, everyone is up in arms about the situation saying it is not fair and he should not have been deported. If you read the story, it gives some details as to what happened and how the young man was arrested and eventually deported. I will post the link here. Now, I have some questions of my own as I read this story.

Luis Andrade Garcia is 20 years old. An adult. He came into the U.S. at around 3 years old. My very first question is why did the adults in his life not work to get him legal status all that time? Why did not anyone step up to help a child get legal status? I would think that would be a goal of his family. The public school system does not allow a child’s legal status to keep him/her from getting an education in Texas. But I would think that the Texas Board of Education would help start paperwork to get a high school aged child legal status. Since there would be no birth certificate or social security card on file for the student, it would be easy for administrators to know which child is here illegally. And this is a huge issue for the state of Texas. If we are truly serious about helping illegal children, this would be a huge step for them. In the U.S., you are considered a legal adult at 18 years of age. You can not tell me that Garcia did not know this. I get wanting to go to college and better yourself. But knowing his legal status, why did Garcia not work on getting legal status at that point? It seems to me Garcia would not have any problem finding someone to help sponsor him for legal status. My next question would be how did he get admission into college, a Christian college no less, if he had an illegal status? Did someone help him lie on his application? Was his status overlooked and the college just seen dollar signs? Colleges, including Christian ones, have become so liberal that as long as the money continues to roll in, anything goes, as was in this case. Is this becoming a regular practice? No student visa, that is ok. We will take you anyway. There really needs to be more investigations into the financing of colleges. And since they are allowing illegal immigrants to enroll, every institution of higher learning should be very closely monitored and scrutinized. And of course, the one question that is always asked in these situations, why run when you know you will be chased? Now I do not know the exact reason the officer turned on his lights after seeing Garcia’s car parked near a local park. But instead of talking with the officer, Garcia chose to drive away. Garcia knew he was here in the U.S. illegally. He was found a few hours later, questioned and arrested for evading. Once arrested, Garcia’s illegal status was discovered and ICE got involved. A week later, Garcia was deported back to El Salvador, his actual home country.

The real facts in this case are Garcia was brought to America illegally when he was 3 years old. No adult in his life ever bothered to get him legal status. Garcia was admitted into Texas Christian University with an illegal status. And now he is back in El Salvador, his home country. Period. The moral of this story: either self deport and come back into the country legally, come into America the legal way, or just do not come to America at all. And I do not say this out of hatefulness. I say it as a God-fearing American citizen. And yes, Borders are biblical.
